Aubrey's puppets

Aubrey loves my Some Odd Girl stamps. She is always yelling girrrrrlllllll and getting very excited while I am trying to photograph cards or color images. I frequently give her images to color alongside me. The other day she and I were playing peek-a-boo with a lovely lil Tia image and I decided it would be fun to make her teeny "puppets" that we could play with.

 Its a very simple idea..... but here is a mini tutorial anyways just in case you need it.

You'll need
1. Colored and cut out images..... I used heavy weight cardstock for the images I printed and posterboard (the non shiny side) for the images I stamped.
2. leftover rubon sticks (or popsicle sticks)
3. helmar 450 quick dry adhesive

To make apply a small amount of the Helmar 450 to the top of the stick and lay it gently on the back of the image. If your kidlet is as small as mine you want to put it high enough that it has a little stability. I used the Helmar 450 because the stuff dries SO quickly that she was able to play with it less than 2 minutes after I made it!

Here they are hanging out in a pot full of cotton balls just ready to be played with. As the lovely Leah says they would also look cute in a potted plant or stuck into some sinfully delicious dessert.

Circle Banner tutorial

Another Monday means another fabulous reveal at Cookin Up Creations! This week I was assigned another layout using the fabulously versatile  Whisker Graphics Divine Twine. I decided to use the twine to make a super simple banner on this layout featuring my baby sister Jessica and her son AJ

Wanna make a circle banner?? It was so so easy.

You need:
* some fabulous Divine twine from Whisker graphics
* scraps of patterned paper
* a 1" circle punch (i used a  fiskars squeeze punch)
*  Ink
* glue dots or zots

1. Using your circle punch ... punch out as many circles as you need. I used 5 because my layout is 8.5x11.
2. Ink your circles
3. Fold circles in half. Crease them well
4. Place folded circle over twine and secure with a glue dot. Continue adding circles until your banner is finished.
5. Add banner to layout
6.Tie 2 small bows using the divine twine. Add bows to ends of your banner.

Easy peasy lemon squeazy! :)

Petite Pinwheel tutorial

Pinwheels have been all the rage in scrapbooking this year. They add a nice whimsical touch to any layout or card. Most bigger pinwheels involve brads so they can spin but I like to make teeny tiny pinwheels to use as embellishments. Instead of brads, I use glue dots or zots to make them super easy.

I used the October kit from Tidbitz in Time for this project

 You need:
*Square pieces of double sided patterned paper. I used a 2"x2"
*Scissors
*Buttons
*Glue dots or Zots

1. Fold your square of paper in 1/2 diagonally. Then fold it again

2. Unfold paper. Cut along the fold lines about 3/4 of the way in

3. Place a glue dot in the middle

4 Fold every other corner in towards the center and stick into the glue dot

5. Place another glue dot on the back of a button and stick button onto center of pinwheel

And there you have it... and easy peasy pinwheel

Now use it on your latest creation

Cute shaped crayons tutorial

I saw a tutorial a year or 2 ago (i couldnt tell you where) on making NEW shaped crayons from bits of broken crayons and silicone baking pans. Its completely genius and completely easy.

Here is a picture of my first batch. Batch 2 is in the oven

To make this cool shaped crayons you need...

*silicone baking molds. (I used the Wilton Petite Silicone 12 Cavity Heart Pan )
*a cookie sheet
*broken crayons (with NO paper on them)

1. Preheat oven to 200 F
2. Break crayons and peel off paper. If its a whole crayon break it in 4 pieces.
3. Toss broken crayons in the heart mold. (I used about the equivalent of 2 crayons per mold) I like swirly crayons so I used 4 different colors for each crayon.

4. Place silicone mold on a cookie sheet
5. Bake until wax is melted. It took about 15-20 minutes for mine to melt. Larger pieces of crayon will take longer to melt... as will larger crayons. Dont be afraid to fill the cups up further if you want really chunky crayons. Mine are for my 2 year old nephew so I wanted a crayon that would fit better in a smaller hand. (and yes he knows not to eat them... lol)

I plan on packaging them in a little bag with a topper that says Wyatt's crayons and buying him a few coloring books to go with them. Im making star crayons next!

A little snowman tutorial

How to make this cute little snowman I used on this card

What you need:
*5 mini black brads
*one orange brad
*small piece of ribbon
*small square of black cardstock
*fuzzy nubby white fiber.
*Cardstock for background
*glue stick, paper piecer, stapler, scissors

1. I went off the skein and made 3 fuzzy little swirlies. I swirled them to the size I needed for this particular snowman. My swirlies are 2", 1.75" and 1,25". (doing this in random shapes makes super cute clouds)

2. When your swirlies are the desired size cut and tuck the tail behind. If you dont like the look of the swirl you can rub the fiber and make it look messy

3. Using your glue stick make a circle on your cardstock base approximately the size of your snowball.

4. Firmly press the snowball onto the cardstock

5. Use a paper piecer to punch hole threw your snowball where the eyes, nose and buttons should be. Insert brads thru your ball and attach.

6. Staple ribbon to the neck area. Twist and staple again so half of the ribbon hangs down. Cut small slits in the end of the dangling ribbon. (I used velvety ribbon)

7. Cut black hat out of a small square of cardstock. I cut 2 pieces... a small sliver curved at the end and a black square rounded at the top. Glue to top of head.

You can use this super cute little snowman on your holiday cards, scrapbook pages or gift tags this Christmas :) Make a large one as a wall hanging.
